Costs doubled since moving from V8 to V6 – Williams F1
Alan Kinch – Williams F1 Chief Financial Officer The engine costs doubled after Formula 1 switch from V8 to V6, claims the finance director of the Williams F1 team. The end of last season reports that, the change from 2.4-litre V8 engines to 1.6-litre turbo-charged V6 hybrid units has seen costs rise from a reported £5m to £15-20m for customer teams. Even as, Williams is the one of the biggest successful customer team, as they switched engine supplier from Renault to Mercedes. The Mercedes Hybrid boosted the team’s on-track results from ninth in 2013 to third last year and this season they are running third behind Ferrari.
