Lack of engine consensus could thwart Red Bull comeback efforts
Red Bull's efforts to edge past Williams with its Barcelona upgrade package may be hampered by the need to conserve its few remaining engines, should rumour of a proposal of a fifth engine's introduction this season failing to gain unanimous approval be believed. Mercedes' Niki Lauda was clear, stating, 'there will be no fifth engine.' However, it remains murky whether Lauda's comments echoed paddock sentiment or reflected the position of the Mercedes garage, which has at times sparred with Red Bull's Christian Horner over the latter's protestations about the engine performance gap.
