Mistakes, gearbox cost Sainz in Shanghai

Carlos Sainz Jr had to chalk the 2015 Chinese Grand Prix up to experience as he brought his Toro Rosso home 14th on the road at Shanghai International Circuit. The Spaniard, already disappointed at not having made the most of the STR10's potential in qualifying, opted for a different strategy to the majority but clashed with predecessor Daniil Kvyat on the opening lap of Sunday's race and, while escaping unscathed, went on to endure a somewhat fraught afternoon, with an early spin and mid-race gearbox glitch limiting his opportunities to recover. Indeed, it appeared that Sainz may be forced to retire when his car slipped into neutral and was coasting, but somehow he managed to coax it back...
