Williams: ‘5th and 6th is representative'

Williams' Felipe Massa & Valtteri Bottas finished today's Chinese Grand Prix in 5th and 6th place, and Head of Performance Engineering Rob Smedley says this is an accurate representation of the team's current level of performance. While 5th and 6th would have been cause for celebration over many of the seasons over the last decade, a great 2014 season means that today's finishing positions have come as somewhat of a disappointment for both Massa & Bottas. Starting from 4th and 5th, both men were overtaken by Kimi Raikkonen through the opening corners as Raikkonen wrongfooted Massa through Turn 1, allowing him to get a good run up the inside of Bottas into Turn 3.
