Bird hampered by lap one collision
Sam Bird was powerless to prevent contact at the first corner as a collision with Sebastien Buemi mean't he unable to compete for big points. Sam Bird, armed with FanBoost, was optimistic of making progress during the race despite starting in seventh place. However, contact with the e.dams-Renault driver on the entry to the chicane resulted in front suspension damage for the Virgin Racing driver. Bird pitted in to swap to his second car at the end of lap one, meaning he would be required to fulfill a 38-lap stint in one car.
