Engine problems put Hamilton on back foot

Lewis Hamilton broke down on circuit during the first practice session for the Malaysian Grand Prix. The Australian Grand Prix winner and championship leader had only completed an installation run when he returned to the track for a timed run with thirty minutes gone in the FP1 session. However, he didn't get very far, as he ground to a halt at Turn 9. Marshals scrambled to retrieve the car from the outside of the turn as Lewis clambered free from the W06 with the engine switched off. The reigning Champion had been told at the beginning of the session that the telemetry link between his car and the garage wasn't working, but that the team didn't feel this was an issue at the time....
