Pirelli expects lap records to be challenged

irelli Motorsport Director Paul Hembery reckons lap records could be challenged this season.Formula 1's sole tyre supplier has changed the rear structure of all compounds for the 2015 campaign, in an attempt to cope with the development gains made by teams over the winter period.At last weekend's Australian Grand Prix, the fastest time of the weekend was Lewis Hamilton's 1:26.327 (Soft) in qualifying, compared to Nico Rosberg's 1:29.375 (Soft) from FP3 – before rain struck – last year.In the race itself, this year's fastest lap was a 1:30.945 posted by Hamilton on the Medium tyre, 1.5 seconds quicker than the 1:32.478 Rosberg recorded on the Soft rubber last season.The gap between the...
