Toro Rosso praises 'outstanding' Sainz

Toro Rosso/Getty Images Toro Rosso technical director James Key praised Carlos Sainz after the Spaniard qualified in eighth position for his Formula 1 debut. Sainz made it through to Q3 where he edged out both Lotus drivers, while team-mate Max Verstappen will line up in 12th place after making an error on his final Q2 lap. "It was tough for Max not to get into Q3, he had a little bit of a mistake in his Q2 run which cost him a couple of tenths which would’ve been enough to make the cut, but I’m sure he will be more than okay tomorrow," said Key.
