Alonso airlifted to hospital for checks after crash

Fernando Alonso has been airlifted to hospital for precautionary checks following a crash during the fourth and final day of the second pre-season test in Barcelona. The Spaniard was on his 21st lap of the day when he suddenly veered right into the trackside wall at Turn Three at around 150kph. Alonso was "conscious and speaking" when medical crews attended to him. He was then taken to the track's medical centre by ambulance and later transferred to hospital by air ambulance.
