Sainz hails Alonso as F1 inspiration
Toro Rosso recruit Carlos Sainz says that compatriot Fernando Alonso is the reason for choosing the F1 route in motorsport, despite his rallying background. Carlos Sainz Junior has one of the most famous surnames in Spanish sport, as his father is the two time World Rally Champion Carlos Sainz. Sainz Senior holds the record for the most amount of starts in WRC with a full time rallying career spanning from the late 80s up until 2005. Since then, Sainz has taken part in rally testing for Volkswagen, as well as participating in the Dakar Rally.
