Ecclestone wants South Africa back on F1 calendar

South Africa could soon return to the calendar if Bernie Ecclestone gets his way after admitting a race on the African continent would be a welcome addition to the Formula 1 roster. South Africa last hosted F1 in 1993 at the Kyalami circuit in the Midrand region of the country. The circuit is now owned by Porsche SA which bought it this year. Ecclestone has his sights set on a return as well as an additional race in America - something which has long been on the cards with many failed attempts including New Jersey and Long Beach.
