Double points, standing restarts dropped

– Formula 1 has officially dropped double points and standing restarts after Safety Car periods for the 2015 season, following the latest meeting of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) in Qatar.Their removal was agreed when the Strategy Group and F1 Commission assembled in Geneva last week, but had to be formally ratified in Doha on Wednesday.Double points, the brainchild of F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, arrived this year in a bid to keep the championship battle alive for as long as possible.But in the wake of widespread criticism from fans, the sport's key figures soon agreed that it would be best to drop the regulation after a season.It ultimately had no bearing on the outcome of...
