Button: 'I just went backwards'

Jenson Button has admitted that he 'just went backwards' in today's United States Grand Prix, which took place at the Circuit of the Americas. The 2009 world champion started down in 12th place thanks to a gearbox penalty, but made progress in the first part of the race. However, high tyre degradation caused him to struggle in the second half of the event. A train of cars quickly formed behind the Englishman and he could not keep the faster drivers behind him. He eventually finished where he started and took the chequered flag in 12th place. 'I just went backwards today,' Button said after the race.
