Magnussen takes gearbox penalty after FP3 failure

+ Kevin Magnussen will take a five-place grid penalty for Sunday’s Russian Grand Prix following a gearbox failure. Magnussen stopped out on track in final practice after a slide at Turn 3 for what the Dane initially thought might have been a suspension failure. However, once the car was delivered back to the McLaren garage late in the session, the team found that the stoppage had in fact been caused by a gearbox failure, which will require a change ahead of qualifying. Nico Hulkenberg is carrying a similar penalty after his gearbox failure in the dying stages of the Japanese Grand Prix.
