Villeneuve calls for safety car rethink following Bianchi accident
+ Ex-Formula 1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve says that the sport’s safety car protocols must change following Jules Bianchi’s accident during Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix.
Bianchi suffered severe head injuries after spinning off and colliding with a recovery vehicle at Suzuka’s Dunlop Curve, which was clearing the crashed Sauber of Adrian Sutil, who had gone off a lap earlier.
Once marshals on the scene realised the severity of the accident the safety car was deployed, with the race red flagged shortly after, while Bianchi was rushed to hospital, where he has since underwent surgery and still remains.
