Reports: Bianchi in intensive care following surgery; breathing independently
+ Jules Bianchi is reportedly out of surgery and breathing independently after suffering a severe head injury in an accident during the Japanese Grand Prix.
The Marussia racer collided with a recovery vehicle on the 42nd lap of Sunday’s rain soaked race in Japan.
The vehicle, operating under double waved yellow flags, was clearing the damaged car of Adrian Sutil at Suzuka’s Dunlop Curve, following the German’s crash a lap earlier, when Bianchi spun off and collided with it.
Following the accident an unconscious Bianchi was transported to the nearby Mie General hospital via ambulance, where he was operated on after CT scans revealed he had sustained a severe head injury.
