Vergne hit with 10-place grid penalty

Jean-Eric Vergne is set to start the Japanese Grand Prix from 21st place after receiving a grid penalty for using a sixth power unit component. Having originally qualified 11th, it transpired that Vergne had required a new internal combustion engine (ICE) for qualifying and as a result is handed an automatic 10-place grid penalty under the 2014 regulations. That would drop Vergne to 21st place, a position Toro Rosso expects him to occupy although the FIA's provisional grid has Vergne starting 20th ahead of Max Chilton and Pastor Maldonado.
