Vergne set for 10-place grid penalty

Jean-Eric Vergne will drop 10 places on the Japanese Grand Prix grid after Toro Rosso fitted a new internal combustion engine – his sixth of the season – before qualifying. The FIA confirmed Vergne's 10-place grid drop for using a sixth ICE on Saturday afternoon. The Frenchman suffered a difficult Friday at Suzuka. He was replaced by Max Verstappen in first practice and stopped twice on track in the second session. He only managed a total of eight laps in third practice, but qualifying – with a new engine – was more positive and Vergne was pleased to finish in 11th place.
