Alonso leaving Ferrari now an almost certainty

Fernando Alonso looks almost certain to leave Ferrari at the end of the season after informing the team that his desire is to leave for rival McLaren. The Spaniard's relations with the Italian team have steadily declined over recent months as Alonso grows impatient over their performance. The 33-year-old has been with Ferrari for five years and has so far failed to secure a so desperately wanted third title. Ferrari admit they're unlikely to be fighting for titles until 2017 at the earliest as new team principal Marco Mattiacci completes his restructure.
