Depending on the makeup of the wiring loom, a small fracture in the wire's insulating cover could have let moisture in and caused erosion. Introducing water into the wiring could cause the internals to oxidise and therefore break down. We are yet to hear anything conclusive about Rosberg's failure, although we could be informed once the car is back at the factory and the materials analysis department have a look at it.
