Vergne defies penalties to claim P6 in Singapore

Jean-Eric Vergne produced his best result of 2014, despite being hit with not one, but two, penalties in the course of the Singapore Grand Prix. Having missed out on the top ten in qualifying, the Frenchman – who is without a seat for 2015 following Toro Rosso's decision to sign teenager Max Verstappen – was determined to claw back as many points as possible in the two-hour race, but his ambition overstepped the mark early on as he exceeded track limits during a passing move. While that move was addressed with a stop-go penalty, a similar indiscretion when passing Pastor Maldonado's Lotus in the closing stages left Vergne knowing that he'd have five seconds added to his overall race...
