Power box failure caused Button's retirement

McLaren has confirmed that a power box failure caused Jenson Button to retire from today's Singapore Grand Prix. The 2009 world champion had been running in seventh place, just behind Valtteri Bottas, on a two-stop strategy when he slowed with a problem. He parked his MP4-29 on the back straight, before turn 14, on lap 52 and exited the race, losing what could have been a strong points finish. 'I was cueing things up for the end of the grand prix: I’d been looking after the tyres for the whole stint, and I knew the last five laps were when things were going to get tricky for Valtteri ahead of me,' he explained.
