Alonso edges Mercedes duo in first practice

– Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso set the pace during Friday evening's first free practice session for the Singapore Grand Prix, edging out battling Mercedes team-mates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.Alonso's best time of 1:49.056, set with half an hour remaining, put him just over a tenth clear Hamilton, with Rosberg 0.027s further back.Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo were also line astern in fourth and fifth, Vettel the last driver to get within a second of Alonso.There was concern for the reigning World Champion, however, as he pulled to the side of the track after the chequered flag with an apparent engine issue.If Vettel needs a new power unit, he will take a...
