Mercedes confirms Wehrlein as reserve driver

Mercedes AMG Petronas Mercedes has confirmed that 19-year-old Pascal Wehrlein will act as the squad's official reserve driver. Wehrlein finished in second position in the Formula Three European Championship in 2012 and has been competing in DTM since the start of 2013, claiming his first win at the Lausitzring on Sunday. Wehrlein has been a regular face in the Formula 1 paddock this year and has completed over 30 days of work in Mercedes's simulator. The German driver also received his first taste of Formula 1 action in Portugal last week when he tested the Mercedes W03 at the Portimao circuit.
