Standing restart proposal came from McLaren - Whiting

Sutton Images Enlarge McLaren was involved in initial plans to introduce standing restarts after safety cars next year. The proposal has now passed through the FIA's World Motor Sport Council and will be introduced for the 2015 season, seeing cars line up on the grid for a standing start after a safety car period. FIA race director Charlie Whiting said the idea, which has not been universally popular among drivers and fans but received the backing of the teams, was first thought up during talks with a member of McLaren.
