Drivers exceeding turn eight track limits will have lap times deleted

Drivers will face having their lap times deleted if they exceed the track limits at turn eight during qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix. This weekend drivers have been found to be abusing the large amount of run-off at the exit of turn eight in an effort to improve lap times, on what is Formula One’s first visit to the refurbished Red Bull Ring. However, following a number of complaints during Friday practice, FIA Race Director Charlie Whiting has informed drivers and team managers that anyone that exceeds the track limits at turn eight, having all four wheels off the track, will have their lap time deleted.
