Standing starts to follow safety car periods from 2015

Standing starts from the grid are to be introduced after safety car periods from 2015. As a part of recent moves to increase the visual spectacle of Formula One, alongside the reintroduction of sparks and efforts to increase the current engine noise, it is understood that the F1 Commission approved this week a proposal that will see standing starts introduced following the deployment of a safety car. Under the new system, revealed by AUTOSPORT on Friday, lapped cars would be allowed to unlap themselves before the field would reform on the grid, in the same style as a normal race start.
