Taffin – Engine headaches in Canada as expected

Renault’s expected fears over a lack of straightline performance ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix have been proved correct, after a “difficult” initial day of practice for the French firm in Montreal. During the opening day of running at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve just two of the top 15 runners through the speed traps were Renault-powered cars, with the other 13 cars powered by rival engine suppliers Mercedes and Ferrari, highlighting the deficiencies of the French manufacturer’s 2014 power unit. “It was a difficult day,” admitted Renault’s Head of Track Operations, Remi Taffin. “We knew that the long straights would give us some headaches since the long periods of full...
