Alonso pips Mercedes duo in first practice
– Fernando Alonso set the standard during Friday morning's first free practice session for the Canadian Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver clocked a best time of 1:17.238 on Pirelli's Soft compound tyre to edge out Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel was almost a second back in fourth.More to follow.Friday afternoon's second practice session in Montreal gets underway at 2pm local time (GMT -4)
