Ericsson penalised for Massa shunt

Getty Images Enlarge Marcus Ericsson has been forced to start the Monaco Grand Prix from the pit lane and given two penalty points in punishment for the accident he caused in Q1. Ericsson took out Felipe Massa at Mirabeau towards the end of the first qualifying session, putting an immediate end to his hopes of qualifying off the back row of the grid and resulting in the Williams pulling up soon after. "The driver of car 9 [Ericsson] recklessly collided with car 19 [Massa] in Turn 5," read the stewards' decision. Ericsson had qualified at the back of the grid anyway. N S
