Zetsche downplays Alonso praise as 'politeness'

Daimler chairman and head of Mercedes-Benz, Dr Dieter Zetsche, has downplayed comments he made toward Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso in which he praised the Spaniard. The German described Alonso as "perhaps the best driver" on the grid, during a visit to Spain last week. However when questioned about the comments during a press conference, he explained that he was being polite in the company of the Spanish King. "I was in Spain," he said. "[King] Juan Carlos was present. I am a polite man." Zetsche however reaffirmed his praise toward Alonso amid rumours he is looking to jump ship from Ferrari to a rival, potentially Mercedes, as the Italian outfit's struggles...
