Alonso beats Hamilton for top time in second practice

Fernando Alonso managed to go quickest in the rain-affected second practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix on Thursday but the result was of no solace to Ferrari. The Spaniard was four-tenths quicker than the dominant Mercedes suggesting that the times, set on the quicker supersoft tyres at the end of the session when the track was drying up, were not quite representative. Practice began on a wet track, following showers and even hail ahead of the session, leaving the teams confined in the garage for the first half of the running.
