Hamilton edges Rosberg in first practice, Red Bull closes in

Mercedes posted the quickest time in the first practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix on Thursday but Red Bull displayed encouraging signs that it could challenge the championship leaders this weekend. Lewis Hamilton edged teammate Nico Rosberg for the top time by three-hundredths while Daniel Ricciardo was third, two-tenths off the pace and far from the gaps seen at the preceding Grands Prix. With the forecast rain holding off and cooler temperatures prevailing, the times may not be necessarily representative for the rest of the weekend.
