A new major performance variable At the end of 2006 two major performance variables were removed from F1. It was at the end of that season that the engine development freeze was introduced. Also that was the final season of the Bridgestone Vs Michelin tyre war. Since 2007 aerodynamics have been the biggest performance variable by a long way.
