Rationing the ratios
While it’s common knowledge that teams have to nominate eight forward gear ratios before the start of the season, how teams have dealt with this rule has been kept very quiet.
Using the same eight ratios for the whole season is a massive shift from 2013; where teams could normally have the benefit of choosing from thirty ratios over a season and any seven for a particular race. One would expect engineers to hit the panic button in the wake of such a downsize, however such trepidation has been smoothed over with a fuel-flow limit restriction of 100kg’s per hour (monitored by a Gill Sensors fuel flow meter).
