Perez sets the pace on opening day of final pre-season test

Winter testing resumed on Thursday as the F1 paddock reassembled at the Bahrain International Circuit for the final four-days of preparation ahead of the 2014 Formula 1 season opener in Australia. Like the first Bahrain test, fortunes were mixed with the Mercedes-powered teams gaining plenty of mileage with their 2014 machines and the outfit's running the Renault V6 Turbo power-unit struggling for reliability. The majority of the teams brought major upgrades to the test as focused started to switch to race and qualifying performance. Sergio Perez ended the day with the fastest time. The Mexican driver managed 104 laps in the VJM07, with his best time being set during some short qualifying...
