'Vettel's dominance prompted points change'

Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone admitted that Sebastian Vettel's dominant 2013 season was the reason behind the idea of awarding double points for the final race of the season. Vettel had wrapped up the Drivers' Championship last year with three races left on the calendar, which made the rest of the season "a non-championship," according to the 83-year-old Ecclestone. The decision to award double points for the last race of the 2014 season was made in December after a vote by the F1 Strategy Group - a body with several members each carrying equal voting power, including the sport's six leading teams, the FIA and the F1 Management.
