FIA opens selection process for 12th F1 team
The FIA has opened a selection process for a 12th team to join Formula 1 and participate 'at a competitive level' from as early as 2015.
This season's grid was reduced to 22 cars after the demise of HRT at the end of last year, who entered the sport when Formula 1 last admitted new constructors' in 2010. The sport's governing body is keen to return to 24 car fields and announced the news in a statement on their website.
'The FIA has decided to open a new selection process to identify a candidate team to participate at a competitive level in the FIA Formula One World Championship from the start of the 2015 or the 2016 season up to 2020 inclusive,' read the statement.
