Drivers to use permanent race numbers from 2014 onwards

The FIA has confirmed that drivers will race with permanent race numbers from 2014 onwards, as Formula One sees the first change to its number system since the start of the 1996 season. Under this new system, drivers will choose a race number between #2 and #99, which they will keep throughout their career, with the #1 reserved for use by the current champion, if he chooses to use it. “Drivers will be asked to choose their race number, between 2 and 99, for the duration of their career in the FIA Formula One World Championship.
