Six team tyre test in Bahrain given FIA approval

The FIA has given its blessing to an end of season tyre test in Bahrain that will see Pirelli evaluate its 2014 prototype tyre with six teams that have opted to take part. Following the World Motor Sport Council's final meeting of the year in Paris today, the FIA has announced a number of changes to the sporting regulations for the 2014 Formula One season, including the implementation of permanent numbers and the awarding of double points for the final race in Abu Dhabi. However, the decision has also been taken to grant Pirelli permission to hold this test after the Italian tyre manufacturer's plans to trial the 2014 compounds in Brazil were scuppered by the wet weather.
