Official: Kovalainen to replace Räikkönen

Lotus has confirmed Heikki Kovalainen as Kimi Räikkönen's replacement. The former Grand Prix winner, who has been acting as Caterham's reserve driver, will contest the final two races of the campaign for the squad he represented during its Renault days. With Kimi Räikkönen's absence – due to earlier than planned back surgery – made public on the weekend, Kovalainen was involved in frantic talks to ensure that a deal was signed before the United States Grand Prix. The primary sticking point revolved around gaining Caterham's permission, with the 32-year-old Finn under contract.
