Pirelli 'close' to finalising supply deal

Pirelli is "close" to finalising an extension to its Formula 1 contract, which would see the Italian manufacturer supply tyres exclusively for at least the next three seasons. The brand, which returned to the sport in 2011, has agreed terms with all 11 teams ahead of next year's major regulation overhaul, but is yet to formally put pen to paper with governing body the FIA, raising fears over the possibility of it pulling the plug. However, company President Marco Tronchetti Provera has explained that it is only a matter of time before a new deal is signed, with negotiations reaching a conclusion.
