Alonso cleared after massive impact

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso has been cleared by medical staff after the heavy impact he suffered during a battle with Jean-Éric Vergne in Sunday's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Having made his second and final pit-stop of the day, Alonso was forced off the track by his Toro Rosso rival before recording a 25g impact. The Spaniard went on to finish the race in fifth position, but was taken to a nearby hospital for precautionary checks. Alonso escaped penalty for the incident, with the stewards' panel determining that he had no option but to take to the run-off as he was not given sufficient space by Vergne.
