Pirelli threatens to quit F1 over testing

Pirelli says it will be unable to continue as Formula 1's tyre supplier should further testing not be permitted by governing body the FIA ahead of the 2014 campaign. Next season, new engines, recovery systems and chassis modifications will heavily alter the demands on tyres, with the Italian manufacturer having to account for the overall car weight limit increasing by 48kg and a substantially different power output. As it is presently restricted to using 2011 machinery, a ruling reinforced after the controversial private test with Mercedes in Barcelona, Pirelli has made clear that much more needs to be done if it is to provide the teams with suitable tyres.
