FIA blocks McLaren tyre test in Austin

Governing body the FIA has blocked plans for McLaren to carry out a Pirelli tyre test in Austin, after teams claimed a performance advantage could have been gained. The outfit was set to travel to the Circuit of The Americas to help the manufacturer with the development of its 2014 tyre range. But despite the use of a two-year-old car, rivals have objected to a test taking place before a Grand Prix takes place at the venue.
