Prac One: Hamilton tops tight session

Lewis Hamilton edged Fernando Alonso in the opening practice at Monza, which saw the top 14 separated by less than a second. As the sun beat down on the Italian track, McLaren had the early pace with Jenson Button and Sergio Perez trading blows before Sebastian Vettel got involved. The German, who ventured out a few minutes before the halfway point, clocked the second fastest time on his first lap out and then set the fastest, a 1:25.914. Vettel's reign soon came to a conclusion when, to great applause from the gathered tifosi, Alonso went quickest.
