Alonso becomes cycling team owner

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso is to become the owner of an international cycling team after purchasing the company in charge of the Euskaltel-Euskadi squad. The future of the Spanish outfit had been in doubt following title sponsor Euskaltel's announcement that it will leave the sport, but Alonso has stepped in and bought the Basque Pro Cycling Team (BCPT) company that owns the licence to the team. Although its name for future competitions is yet to be determined, Alonso's team will race at the highest level of professional road cycling, contesting the UCI WorldTour.
