Permane: No choice but to switch focus

Lotus trackside operations engineer Alan Permane insists that the changing regulations in F1 have left teams with 'no alternative' but to turn their focus to the cars they will campaign in 2014.Next season will see F1 introduce new engine regulations, with cars powered by all-new 1.6-litre turbo-charged units using Energy Recovery Systems.The changing engine formula is set to result in a series of challenges for teams as they design their cars to comply with the latest regulations, and Permane admitted that it was forcing teams into turning their focus onto 2014 – with little expected in the way of major upgrades through the remainder of 2013 as a result.“I expect most, if not every...
