Hamilton taken aback by pole position

Lewis Hamilton has admitted that he was "really surprised" to outpace Red Bull rival Sebastian Vettel during Saturday afternoon's qualifying session at the Hungaroring. The Mercedes driver, who was only sixth fastest in morning practice, delivered a time of 1:19.388 in the final phase to usurp long-time leader Vettel by 0.038 seconds. Hamilton's 30th career pole moves him one clear of five-time World Champion Juan Manuel Fangio, and raises his Saturday afternoon success rate to 25 percent.
