In the form of Sebastian Vettel, the Red Bull young driver programme has filled the void left by Michael Schumacher with a potentially even-greater driver. His buy-out of the ailing Minardi squad at the end of 2005, despite already owning one team, saved hundreds of people from losing their jobs. Title sponsorship of Sauber in the 1990s and early 2000s also provided much-needed funds for the likeable Swiss outfit. The enigmatic billionaire’s latest gift to the sport has been to restore the Austrian Grand Prix to the calendar, returning with it an undulating circuit steeped in history and surrounded by stunning scenery.
